: The Halloween House of Horrors cancellation is just a lot of hot air. The CEO of Wildlife Reserves is a terribly misunderstood woman. I think she was just trying to bring everything back to a simpler time, when most of the natives in Singapore never even heard of this festive event known as Halloween.
I applaud her for her anti-Colonial stance. We must rid ourselves of unhealthy and unfamily-like influences from abroad. It matters not that the event was cancelled just a couple of weeks out. It matters not that the event was held previously, and was highly popular as well.
It matters not that the hard work of hundreds of students would go to waste. Hard work to promote evil must not be rewarded! Evil must be nipped in the bud, lest it blooms into something un-nippable, and Chief Executive Officers must do what they are named to do – to execute!
Without this kind of execution, our family-centred festivities and infrastructure would be poorer for it. Evil places like Haw Par Villa with its even scarier depictions of the seven levels of hell would still be around.
In fact, without this standard of guidance, the appeasement of hungry ghosts during the 7th month would go on all year! Whispers from the rumor mill is that the next bold stroke to be announced by her office concerns the imminent deportation of the zoo’s two Tasmanian Devils (back from where they came – downunder).
So how did it go wrong for WRS? Could this have been better managed?
Should the event have been cancelled at all? Even WRS employees seem to be divided on this.
Whether or not one agrees with WRS’s decision and reasons for cancelling the event, it would appear that WRS could have communicated it better. The suddenness of the cancellation followed by a lack of clarity may have allowed various speculations to take on a life of their own. Despite clarifications and apologies later on, these ‘theories’ did not die down easily. Even WRS employees seem to be divided on this incident.
Meanwhile, a third party – MP Baey Yam Keng – offered an alternative venue so that the students’ efforts would not be wasted, although his offer was not taken up.
